Website/UI exemplars

Lux Maps

Previous years Lux maps.
- all have a dark background, making it difficult to read
- displays locations of installations well, along with a route to each one
- I like how the 2013 map is within a circle, it narrows down the area of the event, making it easier to focus on how to get where you want to

TechTALK

Initial UX discussion and thoughts

Website changing by location

People in walking distance spontaneous trip

- Are the lights on
- Where do I go
- What is the programme
- How many more days is it on for
- Social sharing / aggregate updates of who’s there

Connoisseurs planning their visit in advance

- Who are the artists
- What is the theme
- When is it on
- What else is happening around that time

Wellington region people planning a trip in

- Where in Wellington is it
- Is there nearby parking
- Public transport to get me there
- What else can I do whilst in Wellington

Website changing by time of day

11pm - 7pm

- When are the lights on tonight
- How many more days are they on for
- Where do I go to start the course
- The website feels dark

7pm - 11pm

- Show me the full map
- Tell me about each piece
- Social sharing / aggregate updates of who’s there

Brain dump

- Day of event is different
- After 8pm its different
- Location aware at event ‘Welcome’ message
- At night the website looks different like lights turn on

Light Festival Websites

The dark background makes it difficult to read the text. Also, the amount of text is off-putting and ithe layout is another factor making it hard to read.

Although I don’t like dark backgrounds, this fits in well. I think it's the difference between black and dark blue along with the lighter shade of blue. I like the countdown timer near the bottom that builds up ‘hype’ for the event.

This website gives off a good vibe of light at night with the imagery. Again there is a lot of texts to take in on the home page. I feel that page should be dedicated to previous works to draw in interest, along with the details and sponsors.

Auckland Art in the dark. This is a great website, it has clear sections from finding your way through pages to the date, time, location and even sponsors. It still gives off a feel of ‘light at night’ though could make the type and/or lines above and below the page links a bright colour that could even change each time you go to the home page.
